Johnson as President

.

President Lyndon B Johnson Kennedy Esterbrook pen used to sign Peace Corps Legislation
Senate Bill (s. 2054) 1965

Senate Bill S. 2054 from the 89th Congress (1965–1966) was legislation that amended the Peace Corps Act. It altered Peace Corps operations by raising spending limits on research, modifying volunteer and staff compensation, and extending Career Information Service programs for returning volunteers.

The bill-signer is a Esterbrook dip pen. The Esterbrook bill-signer was first used by Harry S. Truman as a official bill-signer however these pens were made famous by President John F, Kennedy who loved these used and loved these pens. These pens were used by 4 presidents and the only way to date them is by the length of the imprinting of the word " The President - The White House) on the barrel of each pen the printing got bigger with each President. The one most tied to President Kennedy are the 40mm this one is the 43mm version which were ordered by the Kennedy White House and briefly used by president Kennedy before his assassination at which time then President Johnson would continue to use them until the Parker Eversharp bearing Presidnet Johnson name arrived sometime in 1965.

This is a 43mm wording of the Esterbrook Bill-signer that President Johnson used to sign Senate Bill S 2054 updating the Peace Corps in August 24 1965.

From the Date on the bill this appears to be one of the last uses of these Historic Esterbrook bill-signer to be used to sign any bill.
.
This pen itself is in excellent shape especial for its age please see photos. The pen bears the words
The President - The White House

What makes this actually Presidential use Esterbrook bill-signer even more rare and those valuable is it comes is the rare box from The White House bearing both The Presidential Seal and President Johnson signature on is similar to Parker Eversharp that he had created to replace the Esterbrook Pen. This tradition of having the Presidential Seal and the President Signature on the presentation box of bill signers would pretty much stand until this day more than 60 years late.

I am also including a Small Black and White photo of The White House taken during 1965 the date of the bill signing. $500.00

The last four photos show both President Kennedy and President Johnson actually using a Esterbrook Bill signer similar to this one during actual bill signing ceremonies and are provided for reference only you can find dozens more on the web.

President Johnson Bill-signer used to sign

House Bill (H. R. 89)
Rare Large Center Seal Box

H.R. 89 in 1965 authorized the creation of the Tocks Island National Recreation Area in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The bill directed the Secretary of the Interior to develop the region for public outdoor recreation, such as camping and fishing, and authorized funds for land acquisition and facility construction.

The bill-signer is a Parker Eversharp pen. These pens were especially ordered by The Johnson White House in 1965 to Replace the Esterbrook Dip Pens that were ordered and used by the Kennedy White House and then continued to be used by President Johnson after President Kennedy's assassination. According to records he never liked these dip pens and preferred a more modern style as well as wanting put his name on the official Presidential Bill-signer which he did both liberality and figuratively with these new Parker Eversharp bill signing pens. The pen would become the first Presidential Bill-signer to have the President's signature on them as well as The Presidential Seal and the special presentation box would also have his signature and The Presidential Seal on it. This is a tradition that has mostly stud to this day 60 years later. There were to versions of this box used by The Johnson White House one with a smaller seal to the left which is by far the most common. The second is one like this one here with a larger Presidential Seal in the center the box. This one is far harder to find those much more collectible.

From the Date on the bill this appears to be one of the earliest uses of these then new Parker Eversharp pens further adding to its desirability.
.
This pen itself has The Presidential Seal and President Johnson's signature as well as the words "The White House". The pen is in very good condition with very little wear and only a few light scratches to show sign of light use. The presentation box is also in good condition for its age showing normal wear and some staining as well as please see photos. The pen also has the original ink however as this is an original LBJ gift the ink has long since dried up but can be replaced if you want.  $225.00

Vice President Hubert Horatio Humphrey Gift Bracelet

From the estate of Special Agent George Hickey

This is an actual Humphrey Ladies Gift Vice Presidential Seal charm bracelet from the estate of Special Agent George W. Hickey. The bracelet has the old Vice Presidential Seal on one Side and HHH for Hubert Horatio Humphrey on the other side. It is in good condition for its age please see photos. Special Agent George W. Hickey was a Secret Service Agent assigned for executive protection for The Kennedy White House and he was assigned to the lead follow up car on the fateful Dallas motorcade on  22 Nov 1963. The Warren Commission reported: "Special Agent George W. Hickey, Jr., in the rear seat of the Presidential follow-up car, picked up and cocked an automatic rifle as he heard the last shot. At this point the cars were speeding through the underpass and had; left the scene of the shooting, but Hickey kept the automatic weapon ready as the car raced to the hospital. Most of the other Secret Service agents in the motorcade had drawn their sidearms. What has unfortunately made George Hickey famous and what will forever tie him to the end of Camelot is that he was accused of being the person responsible for the Death of President Kennedy by Bonar Menninger in both a book called Mortal error and later a documentary titled JFK The Smoking Gun. He claimed that after the first shot, Hickey stood up and lost his balance, and accidentally discharging his gun into the back of Kennedy’s head. The photos of the Hickey are just for refrense and are not included however I am including a copy of Special Agent George Hickey's Executive Office building ID Tag as well as his Association of Retired Secret Service Agents ID Card.  $35.00
