John Fitzgerald Kennedy

1961-1963

Kennedy Personal Gift to his Delegates

John Kennedy personal Gift to The 1960 Democratic Delegates. Here is one of the great pieces of Kennedy Political Memorabilia. It is one of the original gifts that John Kennedy personally gave only to the Democratic Delegates who had pledged their vote to him “BEFORE” the start of the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in July of 1960. It is one of the most unique and beautiful JFK items ever given, and certainly one of the most scarce. It is a round piece of crystal clear Lucite measuring approximately 2 3/8” in diameter and 1″ thick. Encased in the piece is a gold colored PT109 with the words “KENNEDY 60″ on the side. Also encased are the words “DELEGATE 1960″and Kennedy’s signature, both of which are also in gold. The piece is in excellent condition for its age please see photos. This would be a great addition to the desk of the serious JFK Collector. $500.00

Rare Kennedy 1960 Democratic Convention Delegate Key

This is a scarce surviving brass key gift from the 1960 Democratic Convention held in Los Angeles that year. This is the historic convention that nominated John F. Kennedy for president one of the most exciting conventions in history. This was one of the gifts given to the actual delegates who attended this historic event. The key shows some natural aging and toning but it is in excellent oval condition. On one side shows a flying donkey for the Democratic national logo and the words DELEGATE Los Angeles 1960.  On the reverse says National Democratic Convention and the Air Transportation Association Flying Donkey Club. $135.00

Very rare Sterling Silver Gift Pen

This is a very rare hard to find Sterling Silver Pen made for The Kennedy White House by silvercraft. Silvercraft took pens of other manufacturers and added a sterling silver overlay over the barrel, the presidential JFK's used either a Parker or a Sheaffer ballpoint. Silvercraft made a couple of different pens for JFK a Senator Pen, Pens for the Inauguration but the hardest to find and most sought after are the ones he gave out as official VIP Presidential gifts like this one. According to John Loring book The Presidential Pens Silvercraft made up Presidential Kennedy's first personalized presidential gift pen. This is one of these very rare pens and it is in excellent condition. This is a must have for the discriminating Kennedy collector. I obtained this pen directly from a former White House staffer. $1500.00

Original Kennedy White house Parker Gift Pen

This is an original Parker jotter gift pen made for The Kennedy White House and given out by President Kennedy. They were first used in 1952 and we have documentation to this in a letter written in 1952by Evelyn Lincoln (President Kennedy's personal secretary) to Mr. Daniel Parker (The President of The Parker Pen Company) thanking him for furnishing the President with specially imprinted "Jotter" ball points for use as "Presentations and Mementos". These Parker Jotters are one of the most famous or perhaps infamous of all pens associated with The Kennedy White House. In fact this pens have an almost mystical appeal. One of the reason for this is because the Kennedy Presidential Library reproduced these pens and sold them at the library. Unscrupulous or unknowing dealers often tried to represent these reproduction as true treasure from Camelot. According to John Loring who wrote the bible on Presidential Pens.  The original pens can be easily be distinguished from the reproduction by the following Kennedy's signature is smaller in the original close to the same length of the wording The White House. The original pens have metal thread on the inside the newer one are plastic. The Threading on the original is finer and the reproduction threading is thicker and has a notch above the threading. The top of the pen on the originals is more smooth without the ridge on the reproductions. In fact John Loring looked at this pen and confirmed it was original. So if you are looking for a rare Kennedy item look no further this is as rare as it gets in fact this is the only one of these pens I have ever had up for sale. I was lucky to get this pen myself directly from the personal collection of a former White House staffer along with a couple other Kennedy pens. The pen shows light use but it its in excellent condition for its age. You can now own an original piece of Camelot that is one of the most famous and replicated of all Kennedy White House gifts. $1250.00

Original Kennedy White House Parker Jotter 45

This is an original Parker 45 Jotter made for The Kennedy White House and given out by President Kennedy in his latter years in The White House. According to John Loring who wrote the bible on  Presidential Pens the parker Jotter was JFK's standard gift pen in the latter part of his administration. In fact one of these pens was found in one of his oval office desk drawers when he was assassinated. These Kennedy White House Parker Jotter 45 are one of the most difficult to find and sought after Kennedy items there are. They are even harder to find then the first Kennedy White House Jotters. While they were not reproduced by The Kennedy Library there are modern fakes out there which unscrupulous or unknowing dealers often try to represent these reproduction as true treasure from Camelot. According to John Loring the actually Kennedy White House Parker Jotter 45 can be verified using most of the same methods used to authenticate the earlier Kennedy White House Parker Jotters from the Kennedy Library reproductions. I was lucky to get this pen myself directly from the personal collection of a former White House staffer along with some other very rare Presidential pens. In short this is a truly magnificent piece of Camelot that is almost impossible to find in any condition and to find one like this in fantastic condition with its original box is almost unheard of. $1500.00

Original President Kennedy Bill Signing Pen 40mm version

This is a very rare Bill Signing pen made for and used by President Kennedy throughout his entire Presidency. These pens were made by Esterbrook (a company which is now out of business) The bill signing pen has a black barrel and a clear Lucite top. Etched into the barrel of the pen are the words “The President-The White House”. The pen I have is an original 40mm inscription length version a type made for and ordered by The Kennedy White House to be used by President Kennedy as official bill signers. These were not White House gift pens. It was made for and used by the Kennedy White House as the official Bill signers when they ran out of the 37mm version. These pens were among the last Pens used by President Kennedy. Again this is an original 40mm version and not the much more common 43mm version used by LBJ. This particular Kennedy bill Signer is of the brown/gold imprinting as apposed to the somewhat more common white imprinting. According to John Loring the Author The Presidential Pen and one of the foremost authorities of Presidential Bill Signers and gift pens both the 40mm White and Brown/Gold imprinting were made for and used by President Kennedy.

Official Kennedy Bill signing pens are among the most sought after and valuable of all JFK collectibles.

Below are various photos of President Kennedy using this type of pen to sign bills throughout his Presidency. The last two photos are from original news wire photos that I owned and sold. They show President Kennedy using and giving out to VIP's these pens in 1961 and again in 1963 showing that he used this pens exclusively throughout his entire Presidency. The photos are for reference only.

This would make a great gift for any Presidential or Kennedy collector who wants a true museum quality original JFK item to display and cherish. $1250.00

Rare Kennedy White House Gift Lighter

This is a hard to find Ronson Vara Flame Petite Presidential Gift lighter with a beautiful Gold Di Cast Presidential Seal. This was primarily designed as a woman's VIP Gift from The Kennedy White House. Woman's gifts are far rarer and harder to find then men's gifts. In fact this is only the second one of these I have seen come up for sale in twenty years and that one claimed to have belonged to Jacqueline Kennedy, while this one has no such esteemed pedigree and it is not unique it is still very rare and would make a valuable addition to any collection. $250.00

Very Rare Set of Presidential Matchbooks Both Ship Names

This is a set of 2 different matchbooks for the same Presidential Yacht that severed several presidents begging with Truman and ending with Nixon. This Yacht went through 3 name changes while in Presidential service first President Truman Named her Margie in honor of President Truman's daughter. Ike then renamed her the Susie E in honor of one of his granddaughters.  Then the ship is most famously known as the Patric J. when President Kennedy had her renamed the Patric J after his Paternal Grandfather. LBJ never bothered to rename her as he preferred to use the larger Presidential Yacht The USS Sequoia. She was last used by President Nixon when he renamed her Julie after his daughter.  Rarest Known Version of this Famous Type of

Air Force One Double Deck of Cards

This is the rarest version of this type of playing cards made as a VIP gift for people who have flown aboard Air Force One as a guest of the President. This type of cards were also widely used for many a card games aboard America's Flying White House by some of the most important people in the world. This version is the rare double deck of light and dark blue cards with no Presidential Signature on the box. Unlike the common single deck with no signature the double deck with no signature is very rare and among the oldest verity of these cards known. Many political collectors say these were used on 26000 during President Kennedy's administration as they closely match the Presidential Yacht USS Sequoia Double Deck of Cards made for President Kennedy and no other deck of cards are known made for President Kennedy's Air Force One Jet 26000. It seems unlikely that no cards would be made for the First Presidential Jet every to be built as a Presidential Aircraft as they have been giving out Presidential Cards since President Truman plain and Kennedy did in fact have a double deck of cards for his earlier prop plane. To further this theory is the fact that President Kennedy's early prop plain used a double deck of cards also without Kennedy's name on them but they are know to have been used by President Kennedy. Also all the other Presidents known to use this type of cards had cards made that have The President's Signature on them. They include LBJ, Nixon, Ford and Lastly Reagan. President Carter was known not to give out this type of cards on Air Force One as he thought they were a waist of the tax payer's money and publicly stated so on Television. The other theory is that a small amount of these were ordered by the Air Force One squadron themselves to be used as VIP Presidential gift during Presidential transitions.

This set of cards are unused with the outer seal still intact though showing some signs of ware do to it's age. The top layer of photos are the actual cards shown for sale the second layer are examples of the other cards I talk about from my own collection. $200.00

Special Agent George W. Hickey Collection

I recently acquired many items from the estate of Special Agent George W. Hickey. Special Agent Hickey was a Secrete Service Agent assigned to executive protection for The Kennedy White House and he was assigned to President Kennedy ill fated motorcade that ended with the death of a President and the end of an era.

A Short History of Special Agent George Hickey

George Hickey was born in 1923. He became a member of the Secret Service working for the White House in Washington. During the motorcade tour of Dallas on 22nd November, 1963, Hickey was in the follow-up car, directly behind the presidential limousine. When President John F. Kennedy was shot he rose to his feet with his AR-15 machine gun but did not fire it.

Winston G. Lawson claimed: "As the lead car was passing under this bridge I heard the first loud, sharp report and in more rapid succession two more sounds like gunfire. I could see persons to the left of the motorcade vehicles running away. I noticed Agent Hickey standing up in the follow-up car with the automatic weapon and first thought he had fired at someone." The following day Hickey was quick to deny he fired a shot. He issued a statement: "After a very short distance I heard a loud report which sounded like a firecracker. It appeared to come from the right and rear and seemed to me to be at ground level. I stood up and looked to my right and rear in an attempt to identify it. Nothing caught my attention except people shouting and cheering." Tim McIntyre, the Secret Service Agent standing next to him at the time also confirmed there was no shot.

The Warren Commission reported: "Special Agent George W. Hickey, Jr., in the rear seat of the Presidential follow-up car, picked up and cocked an automatic rifle as he heard the last shot. At this point the cars were speeding through the underpass and had; left the scene of the shooting, but Hickey kept the automatic weapon ready as the car raced to the hospital. Most of the other Secret Service agents in the motorcade had drawn their sidearms.

In Mortal Error: The Shot that Killed JFK, published in 1992, Bonar Menninger argues that Kennedy was killed by Hickey. He claimed that after the first shot, he stood up and lost his balance, and accidentally discharging his gun into the back of Kennedy’s head. According to Menninger: "Hickey reaches down and grabs the AR-15 off the floor, flips off the safety and stands up on the seat, preparing to return fire. But his footing is precarious. The follow-up car hits the brakes or speeds up. Hickey begins to swing the gun around to draw a bead on Oswald, but he loses his balance. He begins to fall. And the barrel happens to be pointing toward Kennedy's head. And the gun happens to go off."

In April, 1995, George Hickey sued St. Martin's Press about what was said about him in the book, Mortal Error: The Shot that Killed JFK. His lawyer, Mark S. Zaid: "We're trying to stop this now while Hickey's still alive... He doesn't want his grandchildren growing up and hearing other children say, Hey, your grandfather killed the president of the United States." According to Zaid: "We settled the case then but only if it included an apology from the publisher that would send the message to most reasonable people that the theory was flawed."

George Hickey died in 2011. Aware that he could no longer be sued, Bonar Menninger worked with Colin McLaren, a veteran Australian police detective, to make a documentary, JFK: The Smoking Gun, repeating the claims.

Early Air Force One Matchbook

From the estate of Special Agent George Hickey

This is an actual Air Force One Matchbook from the estate of Special Agent George W. Hickey. The matchbook appears to have been unused but shows signs of  age please see photos. This is full book of matches. These are the oldest matchbooks I have seen to feature a picture of the first Jet used exclusively to be the Presidential Aircraft. This was the same jet first just by President Kennedy and the same Jet that latter flew his body back to Washington and on which LBJ was sworn in as President so its a important peace of American history. The biggest difference in this matchbook from the latter version is it does not have the word Aboard before Air Force One which was a tradition used on Air Force One matchbooks started during LBJ administration. Special Agent George W. Hickey was a Secret Service Agent assigned for executive protection for The Kennedy White House and he was assigned to the lead follow up car on the fateful Dallas motorcade on  22 Nov 1963.
